Dear friends,
This is Sustainable Systems Research and Development's spring quarterly update. We are very busy on a number of fronts and we would like to share some of this news with you.
King Biofuels Production Facility to break ground in June 2008
This spring, SSRD's Sustainable Biofuels plans and projects are in the spotlight. We are pleased to announce that in June, SSRD's Los Angeles production facility for sustainable biodiesel will begin construction as "King Biofuels." Our facility, with an anticipated capacity of 1.9 million gallons per year, marks the culmination of several years of work into sustainable fuels research.
The opening of the plant will be a milestone for SSRD, as it is the first of our many projects to begin actively demonstrating our green business principles in action.
A Biodiesel School Bus Fleet
Where is the best place to begin using sustainable, low-emissions biodiesel fuel? We certainly have an opinion.
According to a study {HYPERLINK} by California's Environmental Protection Agency,
school children aboard conventional diesel buses may often be exposed to higher levels of particulates and other pollutants than people breathing the air in traffic just outside. While it is certainly possible to outfit conventionally fueled school buses with particulate traps, we advocate making that remedy unnecessary in the first place, by running buses on cleaner-burning, sustainable biodiesel.
We are still early enough in the process of creating a national biofuels infrastructure that a commitment on the part of school systems to sustainable biodiesel may help sway the public in favor of sustainable fuels production standards -- which will be important for the long-term health of our country's croplands.
SSRD, King Biofuels Logos
Eat Inc., SSRD’s Kansas City based graphic design firm, has let us know that the logos they designed for us will be published in a book called American Corporate Identity.
April Events & Membership Drive
This spring, SSRD will have a presence at two Los Angeles area Earth Day celebrations, and the Coachella Music festival. Come by our booth and see us! We will be giving out custom-designed SSRD re-usable grocery bags and other premiums to new member sign-ups.
